Best Himalayan Treks in India

The Himalayas is a gift to the world from India. The Himalayan treks in India have as diverse landscapes as the country of India is. The Northern Himalayan states of India offer every kind of terrain right from tropic lush valleys to stark beige deserts. The treks can be further categorized into treks for beginners and treks for pro trekkers and mountaineers. This key feature of being a dynamic mountain range is what sets the Himalayas apart from the rest of the trek trails in India.

Here are some of the best picks for treks from the Himalayas

Kedarkantha Trek

Beginning with the land of serenity and spirituality, Uttarakhand is home to some of the best snow treks in India. The trek to Kedarkantha is a snowy one with a white aesthetic. The trail is filled with stunning views of the valleys and the pristine white frozen lake of Juda ka Talab. This is a popular snow trek among the budding trekkers as the trail is perfect for beginners. Have the first ever snowfall experience of your life at Kedarkantha and get to camp on the white ground.

Chadar Trek

A must-see the wonder of the Himalayas is Ladakh and its out-of-the-world treks. Chadar trek is India’s one of the most beloved frozen river treks. Ladakh portrays a totally contrasting view of the Himalayas than what you see in Himachal Pradesh. Unlike the lush valleys of Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh is beige, isolated, and has a lunar-like surface in the region. The high-altitude trek is quite challenging to complete with mere experience. The journey takes you through high-altitude cities like Leh,  Ladkahi villages, the stark Zanskar Valley, and the frozen Zanskar river. The trek requires certain prerequisites to be fulfilled as the region is extremely intense in its weather, temperature and terrain. Above all, the Chadar trek is a hauntingly beautiful trek.

Triund Trek

A trip to Himachal Pradesh is incomplete without the Triund trek. Triund is immensely famous among trekkers all over India. It is the most mainstream trek of Himachal Pradesh that offers an extraordinary experience to its tourists. Naturally, it receives a lot of tourist traffic all throughout the year despite being a short period trek. The Triund summit is more like a flatland or a ridge that offers magnificent seats to enjoy Himalayan sunsets. The Triund trek always makes it to the list of treks to try in India and so should yours.

Dayara Bugyal Trek

Uttarakhand has more than 1000 treks in its boundaries, each consisting of a unique feature. The treks in the Himalayas are presumed to be a summit with a peak. However, the Dayara Bugyal trek is a beautiful trek to the meadows of the Himalayas. Bugyal in Uttarakhand is loosely translated to open grassland or a meadow. The views in Dayara Bugyal are so magical that it feels like you are walking in a painting. The meadow is covered in inches of deep snow during the winters although the scenery during the summers is surreal. Dayara Bugyal is by far the most Bugyal in Uttarakhand due to its pleasing scenic views.

Bhrigu Lake Trek

Bhrigu lake trek is famous for its frozen lake during the Himalayan winters. However, this is an all-season trek so the views are different every season but equally enchanting. This is a short-distance trek in Himachal Pradesh and can be easily completed by budding trekkers. There are two ways to do this trek, one from Bassist and another from Gulaba. The trek is pretty close to Manali hence it is the best short excursion to do around Manali.

Sar Pass Trek

Sar Pass Trek is another frozen lake trek in Himachal Pradesh near Kasol. Elevated at 13,000 ft, Sar Pass has some of the most stunning and dynamic trek trails ranging from thick forests to meadows to snowy heaven. From every angle you look, Sar Pass offers ecstatic views of the Himalayas and the lush valleys of Himachal Pradesh. This is a 4 Day trek where you get to camp at some awesome places and villages along the way.

Kheerganga Trek

Nestled in the beautiful Parvati Valley, the Kheerganga trek takes you to another world for a few days. The trek encapsulates the beautiful Himalayan rivers like the milky white Parvati and the raging Beas. You get to trek along the river and through quaint Himachali villages like Kasol, Malana, Tosh, Chalal, Manikaran, Pulga, Kalga, etc. This is a short-distance trek as well where you can choose to hike along with your kids too!

Kuari Pass Trek

Kuari Pass trek sets the example of an authentic and fun snow trek in India. The all seasoned trek is an exceptionally beautiful winter trek in India where you can experience the typical white winter aesthetics. The well-known Mt. Nanda Devi and Mt. Dronagiri can be seen while trekking to Kuari Pass.  The trek takes you through one of  Uttarakhand’s best Joshimath and Garhwal regions.
